5 inch center to center drawer pulls – Wooden drawers, over time may develop niggling little defects that we always put up with, awkward and annoying as they may be when actually – the vast majority of those problems are rather simple to fix. Drawers where the foundation has split and sticking drawers are possibly the most common issues experienced. With just a little knowledge these may be rectified without having to start phoning around for a joiner as the first or our only option.
Overloading drawers may often be the root cause of sticking drawers. The first step would be to completely empty the drawer and remove for inspection. Check for loose or protruding nails or pins either on the drawer or in and around the drawer frame. Where evident; hammer flush and refit drawer. It could be that simple.
Tip. This may just do the job without any further work.
Drawer runners are also the culprit. Check how smoothly the lure slides across the wooden runners. If they’ve worked loose it may be the cause of sticking; again, generally due to overloading. If so, then just apply fresh glue to the runner and pin into position.
The uppermost sides can get worn with time and use. Check the underside of the runner is still great – it may be possible to just eliminate the runner and flip it over. If so, then cautiously prise off it using a wood chisel- apply glue- and re-pin right into place.
New runners could be required if turning the old runners around does not fix the problem of sticking. Apply a thin coat of wood glue to the back of the runner- press into place- and combine with hooks.
Drawer bases may also suffer the negative effects of overloading. In time they will begin to sag, and eventually they can split entirely, requiring replacement. In this case, cut on a fresh foundation piece from either plywood or by a hardwood of choice. Next, remove the nails or pins securing the damaged foundation to the entire body of the drawer utilizing pincers and eliminate any glue blocks which might be attached using a mallet and wood chisel. Replace with fresh foundation by gluing and utilizing hooks.
Drawer bases which are split may be sometimes mended, that is to say; simply get rid of both halves in the drawer body and glue them back together. From a strength perspective, based on usage, this might not be the best option.
