half round console table with drawers – Wooden drawers, over time may create niggling little faults which we always put up with, inconvenient and annoying as they may be – when actually – the majority of these problems are rather easy to repair. Drawers at which the foundation has broken and sticking drawers are possibly the most common problems experienced. With only a little understanding these may be rectified without needing to begin phoning around for a joiner as the first or our only option.

Overloading drawers may often be the main cause of sticking drawers. The very first step is to fully empty the drawer and eliminate review. Check for protruding or loose pins or nails either on the drawer or at and around the drawer frame. Where evident; hammer back flush and refit drawer. It could be that simple.

Tip. This might just do the job without any further effort.

Drawer runners are also the culprit. Check how smoothly the draw slides across the wooden runners. Should they have worked loose it may be the cause of sticking; again, generally due to overloading. If so, then just apply fresh adhesive to the runner and pin back into place.

The uppermost sides can get worn with time and use. Check the underside of the runner remains good – it might be possible to just eliminate the runner and flip it over. If so, then cautiously prise off it with a wood chisel- apply adhesive- and re-pin into position.

New runners may be demanded if turning the previous runners around doesn’t solve the issue of sticking. Where this is the case cut a couple of bits of wood to the exact dimensions as the first runners, smooth with a medium abrasive paper and drill together with the smallest wood drill bit on your toolbox to take the small diameter of the fixing panel pins or nails. Apply a thin coat of wood adhesive to the back of the new runner- press into position- and affix with hooks.

Drawer bases may also suffer the adverse effects of overloading. In time they’ll begin to sag and eventually they can split entirely, requiring replacement. In this case, cut on a new foundation bit from plywood or from a hardwood of choice. Next, remove the pins or nails securing the damaged foundation to the body of this drawer utilizing pincers and eliminate any glue blocks that may be attached with a mallet and wood chisel. Replace with new foundation by gluing and utilizing hooks.

Drawer bases that are broken may be occasionally repaired, that is to say; simply get rid of both halves in the drawer body and glue them back together. From a strength perspective, depending on usage, this may not be the most suitable choice.
