low loft bed with drawers – Wooden drawers, over time can create niggling little defects that we invariably put up with, inconvenient and annoying as they can be when really – the vast majority of those problems are relatively easy to fix. Drawers where the foundation has broken and sticking drawers are probably the most frequent problems experienced. With just a little knowledge these can be rectified without needing to begin calling around for a joiner since the initial or our sole alternative.

Overloading drawers can often be the root cause of sticking drawers. The first step is to completely empty the drawer and eliminate review. Check for protruding or loose nails or pins either on the drawer or in and about the drawer framework. It might be that simple.

Tip. Before obtaining the toolkit outside for sticking drawers; initial try rubbing on the runners and drawer grooves with candle wax. This may just do the job with no further effort.

Drawer runners are also the culprit. Assess how easily the lure slides along the wooden runners. If they have worked loose it can be the reason behind sticking; again, usually because of overloading. If so, then just apply new glue to the runner and then pin into place.

Worn runners are another frequent cause of drawer problems. The uppermost sides can get worn with use and time. Check the underside of the runner is still great – it may be possible to just remove the runner and flip it over. If so, then cautiously prise it off with a wood chisel- apply glue- and re-pin right into position.

New runners could be required if turning the old runners round does not solve the issue of sticking. Apply a thin coat of wood glue to the rear of the new runner- press into position- and affix with hooks.

Drawer bases can also suffer the adverse effects of overloading. In time they will begin to sag, and they can split entirely, requiring replacement. In this case, cut on a new foundation bit from either plywood or by a hardwood of choice. Next, remove the pins or nails securing the damaged foundation to the body of this drawer using pincers, and remove any glue blocks that may be attached with a mallet and wood chisel. Replace with new foundation by gluing and using hooks.

Drawer bases that are broken may be occasionally repaired, that is to say; just get rid of both halves in the drawer body and then paste them back together. From a strength point of view, based on usage, this may not be the most suitable choice.
